Supporting the next generation in yachting

On 10th April 2026, Astilleros de Mallorca was pleased to host the Palma Edition of the Professional Yachting Association’s 3rd Next Generation in Yachting Forum, held simultaneously in Palma and Antibes.

The event was promoted and organised by four experienced professionals from leading companies within the yachting sector: Montse Barriuso of The Crew Network by Fraser Yachts, Natalie Hillston of Bluewater Yachting, Debra Harding of Crew Unlimited and Rosa Rodrigo of Hill Robinson. Their shared experience, commitment and extensive knowledge of crew recruitment were instrumental in creating an event designed to guide and support the next generation of yacht crew.

Created for those taking their first steps into the yachting industry, the Forum provides aspiring crew members direct access to experienced professionals, who can offer practical advice and a clearer understanding of the opportunities available within the sector.

Beginning a career in yachting can be both exciting and challenging. Newcomers are often faced with many questions: What qualifications are required? How can they secure their first position on board? What do recruitment agencies and employers look for? And what can they expect from life as part of a yacht crew?

The NextGen Forum aims to answer these questions by bringing together recruitment specialists, industry professionals and those people interested in developing a career in yachting. In an open and welcoming environment, participants have the opportunity to seek guidance, gain a better understanding of the different career paths available and establish valuable connections with people already working in the industry.

Beyond providing practical information, the event encourages dialogue between established professionals and the new generation entering the sector. This exchange is essential to help newcomers approach the industry with realistic expectations, whilst also giving experienced professionals an opportunity to share their knowledge and support emerging talent.

Hosting the Palma edition at Astilleros de Mallorca also gave participants the chance to experience one of the Mediterranean’s most established superyacht refit hubs. Palma is home to an extensive international yachting community, making it an ideal setting in which to discover the industry, build professional relationships and begin a career.

Initiatives such as the NextGen Forum play an important role in attracting, preparing and supporting the people who will contribute to the future of the yachting sector. Astilleros de Mallorca is proud to have welcomed the event to its facilities and to support a platform that encourages learning, professional development and new connections.

We would like to thank Montse, Natalie, Debra and Rosa for their initiative and dedication in organising the Forum, as well as everyone who contributed to making its third edition possible.

Following this successful edition, we look forward to seeing the Forum continue to grow and inspire more people to explore the many opportunities offered by the yachting industry.

If you are considering embarking on a career in yachting, don’t miss out on the next edition.

See you in 2027!
