Yacht Painting

First impression count more than anything else. The final paint finish always reflects the overall quality of the vessels construction, even before stepping onboard. Today's sophisticated paint systems require very strict application conditions if you are to guarantee a contamination free finish.

With increasing pressure to produce immaculate finishes several large paint sheds were constructed around the world in the mid 90s. These sheds had limited success as keeping dust levels low with these large spaces became almost impossible, especially as during most refinishing there are still other trades working on the vessel.

Over the last 10 years a new technique has been developed in Palma, to cover vessels individually, both afloat and in a dry dock with shrink-wrap plastic. Working platforms are set up within the structure to give painters access to all areas and still allow other trades to finish their works, essential during tight refit schedules. These covers are custom made to fit all, or part of, any vessel and comply with all port authority regulations for working afloat. Coupled with specially designed systems for the exhaust, gas and solvent filtration means that all paint work carried out with the yard comply with the ISO 14001 requirements for environmental control.

Prop-prep

A special cleaner and metal conditioner designed to remove grease and other contaminants and provide a chemically conditioned surface prior to painting.

Typical Uses: As a pre-treatment and cleaner for propellers, shafts, struts and rudders prior to application of the Propspeed foul release system.

Propspeed Etching Primer

A two-component etching primer, chemically drying by reaction of the mixed components and providing a temporary protection against corrosion and increasing the adhesive property of the subsequent coats.

Typical Uses: As a pre-treatment primer on nonferrous metals such as bronze & aluminium as well as zinc and galvanised iron. May also be used as pre-treatment primer on blast-cleaned steel plates.

Propspeed Clearcoat

An environmentally safe long life foul release coating which prevents the attachment of marine rowth by low critical surface tension. Propspeed does not contain the conventional copper or tin compounds or any other toxic substances which might cause environmental pollution.

Typical Uses: As a fouling preventative coating for boats propellers and running gear. Because Propspeed does not contain copper it is suitable for use close to stern drive and rudder assemblies. : The Propspeed system is not recommended nor approved for use in aquaculture or contact with food products.
