March 2006 Arriving on March first, the public holiday from the Balearic Islands, and was towed over from Porti Pi to Astilleros de Mallorca. HISPANIA was lowered into her new enlarged pit the following day and outfitting works have been started.
THE RESTORATION OF THE S/Y HISPANIA , ONE OF THE MOST FAMOUS YACHTS FROM H.M. ALFONSO XIII. The HISPANIA which had been used as a floating home during her last 30 years, was purchased by the above mentioned Fundación for her recovery, following the track of her old opponents TUIGA in 1993 and LADY ANNE in year 2000. In year 1909 the construction of the HISPANIA begun at ASTILLEROS KARPARD DE PASAJES. H.M. the king Alfonso XIII had ordered her design to William Fife and very soon she became a legendary vessel taking up the first positions in a great number of regattas. HISPANIA’s restoration project, which works had been initiated last month of April 2004 in ASTILLEROS DE MALLORCA and in FAIRLIE RESTORATIONS facilities, with whom a co-operation agreement has been signed, pursues as an aim not only the recovery of an historical vessel but it means also the recovery of some building techniques and working methods, traditional craftsmanship most of them, which have practically disappeared in Spain and that will consolidate ASTILLEROS DE MALLORCA in a market presently enjoying a growth, as it is that of the restoration of époque crafts. Among the most sound financial supports for the said restoration it is to be remarked the contributions by PYMAR, the MINISTERIO DE CIENCIA Y TECNOLOGIA, the GOVERN BALEAR and by ASISA, which have been decisive to ensure the successful completion of the project.
